Accessible Café Tour of Aberdeen : Accessible Café edition : Cult of Coffee

After my unsuccessful attempt at finding cafés in my first week- I found some amazing ones the following week, thanks to some informative responses to my instagram story - appealing to my friends for accessible café recommendations.

I phoned ahead to check the accessibility of the cafés and I was delighted to arrive and find my expectations were a reality! I really enjoyed my visit and felt very accepted.

First up is the Cult of Coffee : located 28 Esslemount avenue, Aberdeen

Parking was easy, I was able to park right outside the shop, if those spaces weren't available there were a lot in neighbouring streets.

They had level access into the café  and a wide door frame, so larger chairs would manage to enter with ease. There were many tables to choose from- all of which are accessible, with easy transfer from wheelchair to your seat of choice. There were also 4 tables to choose from outside.

The café was airy and felt very safe during these COVID times, all staff wearing masks and gloves, and hand sanitiser available in multiple places around the shop.

They won the 'Trip Advisor Traveller's Choice 2020', and they certainly lived up to the award!

The sweet treats, 'pieces', choice was vast, many vegan, gluten free, and normal options available, all with delicious and exciting flavours. The drinks were also brilliant, lots to choose from, with various types of milk and plant milk available.
You can also purchase coffee beans from their shop along with a reusable cup made of recycled materials.

I settled down and and enjoyed my chai latte and vegan strawberry cream cake. Followed by fresh lemon and ginger tea and enjoyed reading 'Hidden Scotland' magazine the staff kindly got for me. Cult of Coffee also featured in this magazine-once again very well deserved!

The bathroom was incredibly well looked after and had plenty of space for transferring. It didn't feel like a storage cupboard as many disabled toilets feel like. It was decorated and felt every bit like a normal bathroom and not forgotten (like many restaurants and cafés seem to) - huge credit to Cult of Coffee. I definitely enjoyed the comic book Beano wallpaper! Following my visit they asked for my feedback as they are always looking to improve their service. Kudos to that too.

Cult of Coffee is Accessible! I would hugely recommend visiting them and trying their delicious cakes. The staff were incredibly helpful and were so welcoming. I will definitely be visiting again soon :)
